Move It To Lose It

I haven't watched Biggest Loser in quite some time, but last night there was nothing on and I found myself glued to the program. This was the beginning of the season. One of my favorite episodes. I enjoy hearing about their families and I even like hearing their excuses. Heck, half of them are the same ones I have been saying since I was probably 20 years old. As of right now, I don't have a stand out favorite player. I will eventually develop a favorite player and a least favorite...that is inevitable.

During the first training session, Dolvett (second season trainer of the Red Team), shouted to his team, "Move it to lose it!" I have heard "move it or lose it," but never the before mentioned. It hit home. I mean, really hit home!

The biggest reason I am working on losing weight is to get healthy and to be able to keep up with my boys when they are crawling and running around. I want to set an example that is positive for them. I want them to learn that while food is something we can all enjoy, it is primarily for fuel to keep our bodies moving and strong.

How obvious! Move it to lose it. I have not managed to actually exercise....yet! I feel like I never stop all day though. I don't actually get to sit down or take a break until hubby gets home and even then, I am busy making dinner and getting ready for the boys' night time routines. I have to figure out how I am going to move it to lose it. I am hoping that I can start to get up early (before the boys do) and get in a work out. I have one that is sorta sleeping through the night and one that just won't even give up that middle of the night feeding.

Oh poo...I just made an excuse for myself! OK. Enough of that! Tomorrow I plan on getting up before the boys do (or after I give Elijah his early feeding) and getting a workout in. There. I said it and so it shall be!

Lunch Break!

My official Weight Watchers weigh in day is Tuesday, so I weighed in this morning at 200.0 lbs.  That's a 2 lb weight loss - I'll take it!

I'm at work, and I work at a desk.  There are always people in and out and it's not always a dependable time that I get to take a lunch break.  I am fortunate that we have a kitchen in our temporary office, so I have a fridge and stove.  I generally bring a few things up to munch on gradually.  My lunch choice today is 4 Points+.  I'm having 2 Tbsp of hummus, 8 sea salt Melba toast pieces, and some baby carrots.

This morning I had 2 Nutri Grain waffles - the low fat ones and a banana.  It has lasted me until about 1:30, so that's good.  I did have 2 cups of coffee today, but I kicked the sugar in my coffee habit a while ago.

Here's a peek at my lunch.  Mmmm!  Yay for 1 Points+ hummus!  I am being a good girl and drinking water, too.

Meal Targets

Yesterday I found myself a bit hungry throughout the day. I ate all my points, but I probably could have had a few more veggies and/or fruits to keep me going.

Today I decided to go back to the "Points Plus Getting Started" booklet. I recalled there being a page dedicated to breaking down points plus by meals. I was hoping it would set me up to feel more satisfied during my day. For the most part it did. I still need to get more fruits and veggies in though. That should be easier because tomorrow is grocery day and I'll have my hands on some Weight Watchers friendly foods.

My target points for the day are 39. Weight Watchers broke it down for me like this...
Breakfast 7 points
Lunch 10 points
Dinner 15 points
Snack 4 points
Snack 3 points

By 9pm I was totally tired, hungry, and stressed! The boys had me going all day today (Daddy has duty) and all night. I mean, I started writing this blog at 8pm and it is now 950pm! I ended up using some flex points on some crackers and 2 oreos. Yup. Total honesty! And you know what....I should have had 3 oreos because they are the same amount of points plus as 2! HAHA That's ok though! Bite it, Write it! And since I am really trying to make a go of all of this, I am going to disclose everything! So there ya have it. Officially Day 2 and I had to use some flex points. I feel ok with it though. This is me. I am a work in progress.

Where am I starting?

My current weight, as of Jan 1 is 202.  One-derland once again eludes me.  Not gonna lie - I haven't been even TRYING to count points, cook healthy food, or make sure I'm eating veggies.  If I had to put a goal weight out there, I'd say 170 would probably be my ideal goal.  When I was in high school, I weighed 165 and wore a size 8.  I'd be much healthier at that weight, even if it is still considered overweight for me.  A 10% weight loss would be fantastic, and I think would be much better on my heart and joints, so 180 is an excellent short-term goal.

I did a 30-day bible reading challenge at church recently, then completed an advent Christmas devotional.  At church yesterday, Pastor Ben challenged us to read the bible this year, a little at a time.  So far, so good. I'm also reading "The Resolution for Women," which was a Christmas gift from my husband.  It is incredible and I'm really going to take my time to read and absorb it.

Comments from the people who see you regularly are always good.  Recently at work, our 70-something handyman asked me if I was losing weight.  That made my day!  I was wearing my size 10 skinny jeans from AL, albeit with more of a muffin top than I would have liked...  He said, "my wife is about your size.  She's wanting to go from 160 to 140."  Now, you'd have to know this man to know that he says what is on his mind, and if he thought it would hurt my feelings he'd never say it.  He's fantastic.  What he said didn't hurt my feelings at all.  It made me laugh inside.  I wanted to say, "Yeah, R...go ahead and add 40 lbs!"

My goals are:

Read the entire Bible in 2012.
Continue writing in my prayer journal.
Follow the Weight Watchers Points Plus program.
Incorporate 30 minutes of cardio 3x/week.

For now, that's where I'm going to start.  I might add goals as we go, but this is a fantastic start!

Ready for 2012!

2011 was a year full of ups and downs...as any year should be. The biggest up was, of course, the birth of my beautiful twin boys! I can't imagine a year being any better than that!

But now...I am fully ready for 2012. (Not that it really matters since it was coming either way!)

I am looking forward to putting myself, my family, and my health first.

So, just like a good girl, I have once again joined Weight Watchers, am counting my points, and making a promise to get my booty moving!

Although I do this little dance with Weight Watchers a couple times a year, 2012 is going to be my year!

I have so many blessings in my life. Blessings I don't know if I truly saw until I had my precious boys. I see things through new eyes and with a new mind. I want to live life to the fullest, be honest with myself, and be the best wife, mom, and friend I can be to the people I care most about.

It's only been a year!

Okay, really, how pathetic is this!?  My last post was 1 year ago.  There is a reason that Coley and I didn't continue our journey together in the past year, but she can cover that.  ;)

A year in review, quickly, found me working outside the home for the first time since before DH joined the Coast Guard.  I joined the worship team at church in the past few months, and have really been finding my way spiritually.  I did lose about 20 pounds, and according to Coley, I look like half the size I was last year.  I don't see that, but I am proud of myself for losing.

Here's my look forward to this year.  I think it's interesting that we named the blog "Why Weight?"  At first I thought of it like, why are we waiting to lose this weight?  Why are we allowing ourselves to be overweight and unhealthy?  I have a much deeper view of "Why Weight?" this year.  In all the things in my life, why does weight hold such a huge place?  My obsession with being unhappy with my physical appearance takes more room in my life than it should, and as a result other areas of my life are losing out on my attention.  I have two sons - they're more important than being unhappy with my lumpy belly.  I have a husband who stands by my side and has been married to be for almost 12 years.  He doesn't obsess about my lumpy belly!

I am making some real changes in my life all together.  I am on Weight Watchers, but it's not about the numbers.  I am honestly more concerned with my health.  I am focused on my spiritual walk with God.  I have accepted the challenge from my pastor to read the Bible in a year.  (We are using YouVersion as a free tool for this - check them out!)

I'm not making the traditional resolutions this year.  I'm not giving up sugar, becoming vegan, avoiding junk food, or any of that.  I am resolved to be satisfied with who I am where I am.  I am resolved to seek God in my life every day and seek His guidance and grace.  I am resolved to treat my body well, and be proud of who I am.  In the process, I do seek to lose weight, but not for a number.  I am on so many medications right now because of my pain level.  I know that if my body is in good shape physically, my pain levels should reduce.

I hope that people that know me see a change in my mindset - a paradigm shift.  I have been on a weight loss journey off and on for 4 years, sharing online.  Right now I'm on a different kind of journey.  Why weight?  Why not life?  Why not love?  Why not health and happiness?  God has all those things for me.  I just have to make the most of each day, and seek Him in the process.
